Requirements vary by university and course, but most applicants need the same core documents. This guide lists what Indian students typically need for admission and what comes later for the visa.
Academic requirements
- Bachelor's: Class 12 (or equivalent) marksheet and certificate, with the subjects your course requires
- Master's: a bachelor's degree with transcripts, and sometimes relevant subject background or work experience
- Diploma or foundation: requirements are usually lighter, but vary by provider
Universities set their own minimum marks. Public universities may have additional entry rules. For example, the University of Cyprus asks non-EU undergraduate applicants for evidence of Greek, so check programme pages carefully.
English-language requirements
For programmes taught in English you may need IELTS, TOEFL or another accepted test. Some universities run their own English test or accept school-leaving English marks. Ask each one, and keep your score validity in mind.
Core application documents
- Valid passport
- Class 10 and 12 marksheets, or degree transcripts and certificates
- English proficiency evidence
- Statement of purpose (and CV or recommendation letters for master's)
- Passport-size photographs and a completed application form
Visa and arrival requirements
After you receive an offer, non-EU students need an entry visa and then a residence permit. The documents commonly include:
- Letter of acceptance from the university and proof of tuition payment
- Passport valid for a sufficient period (commonly at least a year from arrival) with blank pages
- Proof of sufficient funds, such as bank statements, sponsor letter or scholarship
- Police clearance certificate from India, typically recent and attested
- Health insurance for the duration of your stay
- Medical or health certificates where requested
- Proof of accommodation after arrival
The list and exact format can change, so rely on your university and the official guidance. Our visa guide explains each step.
Tips to avoid delays
- Start gathering documents at least three to four months before your intake.
- Check the validity of your passport and test scores.
- Get documents scanned clearly and attested or apostilled where asked.
- Keep copies of everything you submit.
- Confirm every requirement in writing with the university.
